Our chair Elaine Styles has completed her cycle challenge for this summer which was to cycle across the whole of Ireland in one day on the 19th July! The epic one day cycle was 235 km long (145 miles) from Dublin to Galway. Special thanks go to her husband John for all the organisation of the route and for leading into the relentless head wind which batter them all day.
Some of the statistics from the ride are as follows:
• 10 hours and 16 minutes in the saddle
• 1,184 meters of climbing
• 3,3134 calories burned
• 51,744 rotations of the pedals
Raising money for Vision Care for Homeless People gave her an added incentive to get through the many kilometers. VCHP carries out nearly 1,400 eye examinations a year through 6 clinics, three in London and one in Birmingham, Brighton and Manchester. VCHP ultimate aim is to expand the service nationwide in all the major cities, so as to make a difference to as many homeless and vulnerable people as they can. We are actively working towards that.
Elaine covered all her own expenses so EVERY penny donated goes directly to delivering the VCHP services. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
