Vision Care for Homeless People is looking for new trustees – particularly anyone with a keen interest in IT or fundraising.

A very rewarding charity to be involved with, the trustees meet several times a year in London to plan the smooth running of services at the existing clinics in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Brighton, Exeter and soon to be Leeds.

“We have set ourselves an ambitious target of opening a number of new clinics within the next 12 months and are looking for trustees with drive and commitment to help us to achieve this in some of the most deprived centres in the UK,” said Elaine Styles, Chair of VCHP.

In addition to trustees, the eleven year old charity which provides a comprehensive eye examination service and specs is looking for volunteer optometrists to run the Brighton clinic on Thursdays and the Birmingham clinic on Mondays.

Student ambassadors are sought to raise the profile of the charity amongst young optometrists, particularly with fundraising initiatives.

VCHP is targeting substantial growth in the services it provides for homeless people over the next five years. To help achieve this we have an exciting opening for two new trustees:

1. Fundraiser Trustee with proven acumen and a record of substantial fundraising growth. They will support our fundraiser employee and the Fundraising Working Group to develop new fundraising.

We need regional ambassadors who are keen to promote the charity message, and to raise much needed funds for Vision Care for Homeless People.

VCHP has grown to provide clinics in Birmingham, London, Brighton, Manchester and Exeter. New centres are envisaged in other locations when funds and volunteers are in place to support them. We are keen to hear from people – perhaps not from optics – who are keen to raise awareness in schools, clubs and in communities which might fundraise for us. We are very open minded for them to organise and promote events according to their own inclinations and skills. The experience of putting together charitable bids would also be a significant advantage.

Volunteer clinic managers who can support optical professionals to run clinics on a regular basis are sought. You will be organising appointments, recording patients’ details, helping them choose and fit spectacles and generally making everything run smoothly. You do not need to be in the optical industry – we will train you. The satisfaction you will feel after a half day clinic, having helped a homeless person feel safer, access learning or take an important step towards securing a job, cannot be beaten.
